Bank to open at site of former A&W

TWO RIVERS — The former A&W Family Restaurant at 2221 Lincoln Ave. will be torn down and replaced by a bank.

Union State Bank, which has had a branch inside Pick ‘N’ Save since April 2004, will construct a new building at the site, according to Jeff Kleiman, bank president.

The bank wanted to expand its Two Rivers location and had been looking at other property in the city when the former restaurant became available, Kleiman said.

The city’s Plan Commission on Monday approved the site plan and recommended the City Council approve a conditional use permit to allow the bank to operate a drive-through, City Manager Greg Buckley said.

Kleiman said he expects construction to begin this fall.

“We’re looking to be at the location, up and going, in April of next year,” he said.
When the new facility is open, the bank no longer will offer the branch inside Pick ‘N’ Save.

Union State Bank is headquartered in Kewaunee. Besides the Two Rivers location, there is a branch in Green Bay and one inside a grocery store in Kewaunee, Kleiman said.

The A&W Family Restaurant closed April 28.
