“My business has undergone some rather big changes over the years, but none I felt I needed as much help with as the one I faced recently. My business, which has operated out of my home for the past 10 years, was growing in a direction in which I needed a building… EDCMC offered great advice on financing programs, where to find appropriate real estate, help with developing a business plan, and where to find information about federal and state regulations, safety standards for a building, marketing strategies, etc. I sincerely appreciate their help and am glad to have a resource like the Economic Development Corporation of Manitowoc County.”

Free advice goes a long way. Consider it a grant of time and expertise free or at low-cost to you. Several agencies in Manitowoc County and northeast Wisconsin provide their expertise to get you to the next level. You may have heard that there are grants to start or expand a small business. In reality, you probably are not going to find any grants for your business. State and federal agencies, as well as non-profit foundations, do make grants, and some of that money may even go to businesses. However, the vast of majority of grant funding is to support projects which are expected to provide a benefit to the public.  You may find some information on grants here at www.grants.gov and at the Wisconsin Entrepreneurs' Network at www.wenportal.org/financing_grants.
